Federal Union Mining Company records 1853-1886

The Federal Union Mining Company Collection is comprised of company records, legal documents and correspondence related to the organization and operation of a short lived mining company in Clear Creek County, Colorado during the territory's first boom era in the 1860s. Correspondents include A.W. Hoyt, Elisha Wells, Erskine McClellan, and Napoleon Bonaparte Buford. The collection provides a good example of the importance of the infusion of eastern capital in mining ventures in the West and shows how risky such ventures could be.
